lightbulb moment

Skinflint is a new pop-up pizza restaurant in Crane Lane set up by the creators of CrackBird and JoBurger. They are currently giving away free meals on twitter ( follow them at @skinflintDUBLIN ) and after a rave review from one of my sisters, Colm and I popped in on Sunday evening to check it out.

The pizzas were delicious, if a little adventurous for my simple tastes, (if I’m in the mood for pizza I’m not in the mood for celeriac!) but what really caught my eye was the lighting.

Forgive the poor quality iphone photo!

I have a bit of a soft spot for outsized or unusual exposed light bulbs. The plumen bulb below has occupied an imaginary spot in our house for quite some time.

Available from designist on Georges St Dublin or online

After this weekend, that spot has been usurped by this lovely:

Curiosity got the better of me, so before we left Skinflint I had learned that these bulbs are sometimes known as squirrel cage bulbs because the filament resembles a traditional squirrel cage. Even more interestingly, they are available online and are relatively inexpensive in comparison to similar bulbs (if you buy a few to offset the shipping costs).

I can’t buy these yet – renovation and extension plans are afoot – but these are definitely the lights at the end of the tunnel!

  1. The Plumen is such a strong design. However, those other light bulbs are really lovely. Will have to track those down.

  2. Delighted to see I’m not the only one who wanted to track these down! We have quite a few light bulbs on show since our cottage renovation last year and the Skinflint ones really caught my eye as well. Thanks for the link.
