Bathroom for baby

Well I should really explain the title of this post. Firstly, I am currently 26 weeks pregnant (nearly 27) and I have a serious case of maternal nesting. Our house to-do list has doubled in size in the past few months. It has transformed from a few minor DIY jobs, to a full facelift.

The first project that we have to tackle is our bathroom. This is the one room that we have never touched other than a lick of paint every now and again. It is in desperate need of a lot of TLC, a very sad bathroom indeed.

Our poor bathroom above with a sample tile on the floor.

I apologise for the terrible state that our bathroom is in, we have been drawing all over the walls and floor trying to plan the makeover. We also have a terribly annoying problem with mould on our bathroom walls! Hopefully our new tiles will fix this problem, but any suggestions are very welcome.

So far we are finding it quite difficult to decide on pretty much everything from tiles to sanitary ware for our new bathroom. There are two reasons for this, the first is the very permanent nature of tiles. Once chosen and fitted they are pretty much there for keeps. No mind changing allowed. The second is the range of tiles and bathroom fittings available. If you don’t particularly like cream, beige or brown, then choice is quite limited.

Over the next few weeks I will be posting reports on our progress and the very difficult decisions that we have made along the way. Any tips or advice are greatly appreciated! Here are a few inspiration shots to get ideas flowing…

I know what you mean re the plethora of beige and cream tiles out there – so many bathroom and tile shops seem to specialise in them. Have your tried they are based in Terenure I think? but have a good website too

Exciting stuff! Don’t your DIY warehouses provide a variety of tile? I’m a fan of stone a slate tile for the bathroom, much easier maintenance. Looking forward to seeing the project as it moves along. :)

Hi Fionnuala, they do indeed have a selection of tiles, but choice is pretty limited. I have found that specific tile suppliers have a far better selection than DIY stores. I too like stone and slate, but we found a really nice matt porcelain tile yesterday that might just be the winner. I’ll have more on that in my next post!

Hi Lorna, Thanks for the link! that is a great site, I’ll have a good look and try to visit the showroom. I actually visited a local tile supplier showroom yesterday and think I may have found the perfect tiles!
